Best Study Lamp Under ₹1500
Updated 5 November 2026
A study lamp is not just a light. It sets the contrast between the page and the room, and if that contrast flickers or glares, your eyes do the compensating. For long study sessions, the quality of the light matters more than how bright the lamp claims to be.
Two numbers are worth checking: brightness in lumens (400–500 lm is right for reading at a desk) and whether the light is flicker-free. Cheap LEDs flicker at a frequency you cannot consciously see but your eyes still register, and that is what causes headaches after two hours.
The six picks here are all under ₹1500 and include both plug-in and rechargeable lamps. Prices were checked on the date shown and ratings read from each listing.

Philips VION 5W LED Desk Light, EyeComfort
5 W LED · EyeComfort flicker-free · 3-in-1 design · Adjustable
Best for: Long study sessions at a fixed desk
- EyeComfort means flicker-free, low-glare light — the feature that actually matters for long sessions.
- Philips LED quality and a proper diffuser, rather than an exposed strip of diodes.
- 5 W draws almost nothing, so it can stay on all evening without a second thought.
Watch out: Plug-in only, so it is useless during a power cut. Brightness is modest compared with larger desk lamps.
Approx. ₹539

Xech 4-in-1 Study Lamp with Digital Clock and Phone Stand
3 colour tones · 400 lumens · Digital clock · Pen stand · Phone holder
Best for: Students who study against a timer and keep a phone on the desk
- The built-in clock means you check time without unlocking your phone, which is the point of a study lamp.
- 400 lumens across 3000–6500 K covers both focused work and evening reading.
- Pen stand and phone holder clear the desk of the clutter that usually sits under the lamp.
Watch out: The highest-rated pick here, but the clock adds a small always-on draw. Check whether it needs to stay plugged in for the clock to keep time.
Approx. ₹474

BKK Rechargeable LED Study Lamp, 1200 mAh
1200 mAh · 3 colour modes · Stepless dimming · Phone and pen holder
Best for: Desks with no socket and houses with frequent power cuts
- The listing states real runtimes — 1.5 hours at full brightness, 4–5 hours at low — which is more honest than most.
- Stepless dimming lets you drop to a low level that actually lasts through a study session.
- Touch control and a phone stand at ₹336 is good value for a rechargeable lamp.
Watch out: Brightness falls as the battery drains, so it is not a full substitute for a plug-in lamp during long sessions.
Approx. ₹336

FLYNGO 3-Colour LED Study Lamp with Pen and Phone Holder
3 colour modes · USB rechargeable · Touch control · Pen and phone holder
Best for: A student desk that needs colour modes on a budget
- Three colour modes — white, warm and warm white — cover study, reading and night use.
- The pen and phone holders are moulded into the base, so they do not tip the lamp over.
- Micro-USB charging is convenient, though it does mean keeping the right cable around.
Watch out: Micro-USB rather than USB-C. If you have already moved everything to USB-C, this is the one annoyance.
Approx. ₹429

One94Store 3-in-1 LED Desk Lamp, USB Rechargeable
Rechargeable · 3 light modes · Touch sensor · Pen and phone holder
Best for: A hostel or small desk with limited space
- Compact footprint for a small desk or a hostel study table where every centimetre counts.
- Touch control with three brightness levels — simple enough to use in the dark without looking.
- Doubles as a phone stand and pen holder, so it replaces three desk items.
Watch out: Small panel means the light is concentrated in a narrow pool. Fine for a book, less good for a wide desk.
Approx. ₹399

Crompton Deskmate 5W Rechargeable LED Desk Lamp
5 W · USB rechargeable · 360° gooseneck · 3 colour modes · Dimming
Best for: Aim light at a book without moving the lamp
- The 360° gooseneck points light exactly where you need it, which fixed-head lamps cannot do.
- Crompton is an established electrical brand, so the driver and LED quality are more predictable than generic lamps.
- Smooth dimming plus three colour modes covers study and night reading.
Watch out: Lowest rating here at 3.8. The flexible neck is the part that wears out, so avoid bending it sharply every day.
Approx. ₹379

Plug-in or rechargeable?
A plug-in lamp gives constant brightness and never needs charging, but it dies with a power cut and needs a socket near the desk. For a fixed study table, this is still the better choice.
A rechargeable lamp runs on an internal battery for 1.5–5 hours depending on brightness. It survives power cuts, can move to a bedside table, and is the only option if your desk has no socket nearby. The trade-off is that brightness drops as the battery drains.
Look at the battery capacity if you go rechargeable: 1200 mAh gives roughly 1.5 hours at full brightness and 4–5 hours at low brightness, which is honest marketing rather than a defect.
| Type | Runtime | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Plug-in LED | Unlimited, needs socket | Fixed study table |
| Rechargeable 1200 mAh | 1.5 h full / 4–5 h low | Power cuts, bedside, no socket |
| 3-in-1 rechargeable | Varies by mode | Small desks with phone and pens to hold |
What actually makes light comfortable
Flicker-free output and a diffused panel matter more than raw lumens. A 400-lumen lamp with an even, glare-free panel is easier on the eyes than a 600-lumen lamp with a visible LED strip.
Colour temperature should be adjustable. Cool white (around 6000–6500 K) suits focused study and detail work; warm white (around 3000 K) suits reading before sleep because it does not suppress melatonin as much. A lamp that offers both is more useful than one fixed colour.
Position the lamp on the opposite side to your writing hand so the shadow falls away from the page. That single habit does more for comfort than upgrading the lamp.
Questions we get asked
How many lumens do I need for studying?
Around 400–500 lumens at the desk surface is comfortable for reading and writing. More than that in a dark room creates glare; less makes you lean in and strain.
Is warm or cool light better for studying?
Cool white (6000 K) for focused work and detail, warm white (3000 K) for evening reading. Adjustable lamps let you switch, which is why they are worth the small premium.
Can a rechargeable study lamp replace a plug-in one?
For a couple of hours a night, yes. For six-hour study sessions, a plug-in lamp is better because brightness stays constant and there is no charging routine to forget.
