Best Kitchen Knife Set Under ₹2000
Updated 5 November 2026
A knife set under ₹2,000 is not about buying seven blades. It is about buying two good ones — a chef’s knife and a small utility knife — plus a peeler that works. The rest of the box is usually filler, and a block with ten pieces at ₹500 is mostly filler.
What matters at this price is the blade steel, the grind, and whether the handle stays tight. Stainless steel with a full tang (the steel running through the handle) is more durable than a stamped blade pressed into plastic, though at ₹2,000 you will mostly find stamped blades.
These seven sets range from ₹109 to ₹587, with prices checked on the date shown and ratings read from each listing. Every one is a starter set; the difference is how much of it you will actually use.

What a sub-₹2,000 set can and cannot do
A ₹300–₹600 set will cut vegetables, slice bread, peel potatoes and portion chicken. It will not hold a razor edge for years, and it will not replace a good cleaver for bone. Expect to sharpen every few weeks if you cook daily.
The most useful pieces are a 7–8 inch chef’s knife, a 3–4 inch utility knife and a peeler. A bread knife is worth having if you cut loaves; a cleaver is worth having if you cook meat on the bone. Everything else — six steak knives, a carving fork, a sharpening steel — is usually low quality at this price.
Avoid sets that include a “knife block” as the main selling point. The block is often the most expensive part of a cheap set, and it traps moisture against the blades.
| Piece | Use it for | Worth having? |
|---|---|---|
| Chef’s knife, 7–8 in | Almost all chopping and slicing | Essential |
| Utility knife, 3–4 in | Small jobs, fruit, trimming | Essential |
| Peeler | Vegetables and fruit | Essential |
| Bread knife | Loaves, tomatoes, cake | Useful |
| Cleaver | Meat on the bone, coconut | Only if you cook those |
Steel, handles and sharpening
Stainless steel is the right choice for an Indian kitchen: it resists rust in a humid climate and does not react with tamarind or lemon. The trade-off is that cheap stainless loses its edge faster than carbon steel — which is why a sharpener matters.
A handle that stays tight is more important than fancy scales. Plastic or rubber handles are fine if they are riveted or moulded properly; a loose handle is dangerous. Wash knives by hand and dry immediately, even if the listing says dishwasher-safe.
Learn to use a simple pull-through sharpener or a whetstone. Ten strokes every couple of weeks will keep a ₹500 knife working better than a dull ₹5,000 one. Never sharpen a serrated bread knife with a pull-through sharpener.
Questions we get asked
Is a cheap knife set worth buying?
Yes, if you treat it as a starter set and expect to sharpen regularly. A ₹500 set with a decent chef’s knife will outperform a dull expensive knife for everyday cooking.
Can these knives go in a dishwasher?
Hand wash them even if the listing says dishwasher-safe. Detergent and prolonged moisture dull edges and loosen handles faster than hand washing.
How often should I sharpen kitchen knives?
Every two to four weeks for daily cooking, with a few passes on a steel or pull-through sharpener. A whetstone once every few months gives a better edge.
