Best Bath Mat

Updated 5 November 2026

A bath mat has one safety job and one comfort job. The safety job is not sliding when the floor is wet. The comfort job is giving bare feet somewhere warm and dry to land when they step out of the shower.

Those two jobs pull in different directions. A thick microfiber mat is comfortable and absorbs water, but it stays damp and needs washing often. A rubber or PVC mat with drainage holes grips better and dries instantly, but feels like standing on a bathhouse floor.

The seven picks here cover both, plus a suction-cup shower mat for people who want grip inside the shower itself. Prices were checked on the date shown and ratings read from each listing.

1. Best overallRated 4.4 / 5 on Amazon

Roseate Kolam Microfiber Bath Mat, 1800 GSM, 40 × 80 cm

1800 GSM microfiber · 40 × 80 cm · Anti-skid backing · Machine washable

Best for: The floor outside a shower or beside a bed

  • The highest-rated mat here, and 1800 GSM is genuinely thick — it absorbs water off wet feet instead of just moving it around.
  • Anti-skid backing keeps it in place on tile, which is the whole point of a bath mat.
  • Machine washable, and the kolam design looks better than a plain grey rectangle.

Watch out: Thick microfiber holds water, so hang it up after use. In a windowless bathroom it can stay damp for a day.

2. Best rubber matRated 4.3 / 5 on Amazon

ishro home Anti-Skid Rubber Bathroom Mat

Natural rubber · Waterproof · Zig-zag texture · Indoor and outdoor

Best for: A wet bathroom floor that needs grip, not absorbency

  • Natural rubber grips wet tile better than any fabric-backed mat, and it does not absorb water at all.
  • The zig-zag texture scrapes dirt off feet, so it works as a doorway mat too.
  • Rinses clean in seconds and dries flat — no washing machine required.

Watch out: Rubber can develop a smell in the first weeks and hardens over years. Not comfortable to stand on barefoot for long.

3. Best for wet floorsRated 4.2 / 5 on Amazon

Anti-Skid Rubber Bathroom Mat with Drainage Holes, 2 × 3 ft

Rubber · 5.5 mm thick · Drainage holes · Cuttable · 2 × 3 ft

Best for: Inside or outside a shower on smooth tile

  • Drainage holes let water through instead of pooling underneath, which is what stops the mildew smell.
  • You can cut it to size with scissors, so it fits an awkward bathroom floor exactly.
  • 5.5 mm rubber is thick enough to stay flat and not curl at the edges.

Watch out: Industrial look and feel. It is a wet-area mat, not something you want beside the bed.

4. Best under ₹200Rated 4.1 / 5 on Amazon

Non-Slip Rubber Doormat and Bathmat

PVC rubber · Loop texture · Waterproof · Indoor and outdoor

Best for: A doorway or balcony on a tight budget

  • The cheapest mat here, and PVC loop pile traps dirt surprisingly well for the price.
  • Waterproof and anti-skid, so it works at a bathroom door or a balcony door.
  • Easy to scrub with detergent and hose down — no special care needed.

Watch out: Thin and utilitarian. At ₹170 expect a basic mat, not the plush feel of the microfiber picks.

5. Best pairRated 4 / 5 on Amazon

SARAL Home Microfiber Anti-Skid Bath Mats, Set of 2

Set of 2 · Microfiber · 35 × 50 cm · Anti-skid backing

Best for: Two compact bathrooms that each need a mat

  • Two mats for ₹299 — one for each bathroom, or one inside and one outside the shower.
  • Microfiber dries faster than cotton and stays soft after washing.
  • The non-slip backing is stitched rather than glued, so it survives machine washing better.

Watch out: Smaller than the 40 × 80 cm mats here. Measure the space; 35 × 50 cm suits a compact bathroom.

6. Best quick-dryRated 4 / 5 on Amazon

Soft Silicone Super Absorbent Bath Mat, Set of 2, 40 × 60 cm

Set of 2 · Silicone · 40 × 60 cm · Anti-skid latex backing · Machine washable

Best for: A mat that needs to dry fast between showers

  • Silicone surface dries faster than microfiber and does not hold odour the same way.
  • Latex backing keeps the mat planted even when wet — important for children and elderly users.
  • Two 40 × 60 cm mats cover the floor outside a shower without overlapping.

Watch out: Silicone feels cooler and less plush than microfiber. The latex backing can degrade if left soaking.

7. Best inside the showerRated 4 / 5 on Amazon

RichAxis Anti-Skid Shower Mat with Foot Scrubber

Suction cups · Drain holes · Foot scrubber texture · Rectangular

Best for: Grip inside a shower with a smooth floor

  • Suction cups hold it to a smooth shower floor, which is where most bathroom slips actually happen.
  • The textured surface doubles as a foot scrubber, so it earns its space in a small shower.
  • Drain holes stop water from collecting under the mat.

Watch out: Suction cups only seal on smooth, non-textured tile. On anti-skid flooring it will slide — check your shower floor first.

Match the mat to where it sits

Outside the shower, on dry tile, a microfiber mat is the better choice: it absorbs the water off your feet and stops the floor turning into a slip hazard. Look for a mat with a non-slip backing, not just a fluffy top.

Inside the shower or on a wet bathroom floor, use a rubber or PVC mat with drainage holes. Water passes through instead of pooling under the mat, which is what causes the slimy layer that makes cheap mats smell.

On a textured or anti-skid tile floor, suction cups do not seal. Check your floor first — a suction mat on rough tiles is worse than no mat, because it slides.

Keeping a bath mat from becoming the problem

A damp mat is a breeding ground for mildew. Hang it over the shower rail or a rod after every use, and wash microfiber mats every one to two weeks — a machine wash on a normal cycle is enough.

Rubber and PVC mats should be rinsed and hung to dry, not left flat on the floor. Once mould gets into the underside, no amount of washing brings it back.

Replace a mat when the backing starts to peel or the suction cups harden. A mat that no longer grips is a fall risk, and bath mats are cheap enough that there is no reason to gamble.

Questions we get asked

Which bath mat is safest for elderly parents?

A rubber mat with drainage holes and a textured top, placed both inside and outside the shower. Avoid thick microfiber mats that can bunch up, and check that the backing still grips.

Can a bath mat go in the washing machine?

Microfiber mats usually can, on a normal cycle, if the backing is intact. Rubber and PVC mats should be rinsed by hand and air-dried.

Why does my bath mat smell?

Water trapped under the mat. Switch to a drainage mat or hang the mat up after every use — the smell is mildew growing in the backing.
